00:10 hi everyone i’m the web guru and i do
00:12 tutorials on
00:14 video audio and photography so be sure

00:18 and subscribe so here in premiere i’ve
00:21 already put together
00:22 a simple video and i
00:25 have organized the timeline so that all
00:27 of my interview clips
00:29 are on audio track 2 and i am going to
00:32 increase the track height my favorite
00:36 way is simply to double click this empty
00:38 space here
00:40 and now the track is higher you can also
00:43 take that little
00:44 line at the bottom of the track make
00:47 sure you do it over here in the track
00:48 header
00:49 and then drag down and now i can
00:53 clearly see my audio clips and i’ve also
00:56 renamed it to interview
00:58 now if you want to learn about some
00:59 basic audio editing techniques i have
01:01 done another video on that
01:03 now you can already see just by looking
01:05 that this clip here is very loud i can
01:07 see it
01:08 peak right here and this clip over here
01:11 is much
01:12 quieter and i’m going to listen to this
01:14 first clip
01:18 and when i look over here in the audio
01:21 meter
01:21 i can see that these red lights turned
01:23 on and this is not good this means that
01:26 the audio went
01:27 above zero and this is called clipping
01:29 so you always have to avoid this
01:31 and if you need to make your audio
01:33 meters visible go up to the window menu
01:36 and simply choose audio meters and then
01:38 they’ll show up on your screen
01:40 somewhere now this clip over here is a
01:43 little bit on the quiet side
01:46 the tigers are pretty amazing you can
01:49 see that it’s peaking
01:50 uh over here in the minus 18 range
01:53 now here’s an optional thing that you
01:55 can do on the audio meters if you right
01:57 click
01:58 and then choose static peaks
02:02 what that will do is when you listen to
02:04 a clip
02:06 this yellow line will stay inside of the
02:09 audio meter and it’ll show you exactly
02:11 where that clip is peaking
02:13 so this can be pretty useful now the
02:15 goal for this mix
02:16 is to bring our audio clips to around
02:20 minus three i want them to peak at minus
02:22 three now if you wanted to push
02:24 the level you could go up to minus two
02:26 or minus one but just be careful as you
02:29 get closer to zero
02:30 now it is possible to drag this white
02:33 line
02:33 up and down to do this but that can be
02:37 very time consuming and takes a lot of
02:38 trial and error
02:40 so let me show you my favorite way of
02:41 doing it so i’m going to start with this
02:43 clip
02:44 then i’m going to right click and then
02:47 go to audio gain
02:50 and then choose normalize max
02:53 peak now what this means the max peak
02:57 is basically the loudest or highest
03:00 peak in the audio clip and i’m gonna set
03:04 the max peak to
03:06 minus three then i’ll click on okay
03:11 now that has adjusted the entire audio
03:15 waveform so it’s basically
03:16 adjusted the gain of the clip so
03:19 that the max peak is at
03:22 minus three now if i listen to this
03:26 well you can see right here it peaks at
03:29 exactly
03:30 minus three so i really like that now
03:33 i’m going to go to this next clip
03:35 and i’m going to do the same thing i’m
03:36 going to right click i’m going to go to
03:39 audio gain then i’m going to normalize
03:42 the max
03:43 peak to minus three
03:46 when i click okay it is done instantly
03:50 so if i were to listen tigers are pretty
03:52 it also peaks at exactly
03:54 minus three so that’s great now both of
03:57 the clips are peaking at minus
03:59 and so this has already saved me some
04:01 time but normalize is really really
04:04 useful when you have a lot of clips
04:06 in the timeline so for example i have
04:08 all of these
04:09 interview clips and some of them are a
04:11 little bit too loud and some of them are
04:13 too quiet
04:14 and i can normalize all of them at the
04:17 same time
04:18 so i’m going to first of all select the
04:20 clips
04:21 now one way to do it is to click on a
04:24 clip and then hold down the shift key
04:27 and then click
04:28 on multiple clips to select them you can
04:32 also
04:32 click away from the clips and then drag
04:35 with your mouse
04:38 through all of the clips to select them
04:41 and then i’m going to right click
04:44 i’m going to go down to audio gain
04:48 now when you have a single clip selected
04:50 you can choose normalize
04:51 max peak when you have multiple clips
04:54 selected
04:55 then you will want to choose normalize
04:58 all peaks
05:00 to minus three
05:03 when i click on ok
05:07 you can see how it actually has
05:10 normalized
05:11 every single one of these peaks
05:15 or it has normalized every one of these
05:17 clips to exactly -3
05:20 instantly so this is a fantastic time
05:23 saver
05:24 now if i listen to the clips open
05:28 you can see that they are peaking it i’m
05:30 not going to listen to every single one
05:31 of them because you get the idea
05:32 but you can see that they have instantly
05:36 been normalized to minus three
05:39 so that is one of my favorite techniques
05:42 to get perfect audio levels
05:44 inside of premiere pro i hope it saves
05:46 you a lot of time
